Lemon Water with Chia Seeds

Have you tried Chia seeds? This superfood is gaining popularity as a top “Superfood”. At One&Only Palmilla in Mexico, I tried chia fresco which is made by soaking chia seeds in fruit juice or water. I knew this was a fabulous idea because it’s SO healthy! If you’re not familiar with the health benefits of Chia seeds? Read on:

Chia seeds are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids and fiber at 10 grams per ounce (about 2 tablespoons). They contain protein and minerals including as iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc. New research suggests that including chia seeds in your diet may help improve cardiovascular risk factors such as lowering cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure. It’s said that the amounts of omega 3’s can also work reduce symptoms of depression and increase brain function. You can also eat chia seeds raw or sprinkle ground or whole chia seeds on cereal, rice, yogurt or vegetables. Enough said?

  1. I discovered chia seeds at Rancho la Puerta recently. They’re added to anything, but I got accustomed to a daily pre-lunch cocktail of a cup of acidophilus (or kefir or plain yogurt) with a teaspoon of chia seeds, a teaspoon of nutritional yeast and a teaspoon of ground flax seeds. Now that I’m back at home, I’m continuing the habit for dessert after dinner.

  2. I have never had chia seeds (I know, gasp) but seeing this refreshing drink is going to MAKE me remember to pick some up next time I am at Whole Foods 🙂

  3. I use it but I drink it in a small amount of black coffee so the seeds go down easier.. also I have a jar in frig,, fruit juice and chia seeds , so I drink it through out the day like a cool drink.. It gives me energy and I feel refreshed when I drink it.. Very nourishing..

  4. Great ideas, everyone! I make fenugreek tea, and keep it in the fridge–I’m going to make up a quart of fenugreek with chia seeds and see how that works! Thanks for the post!

    here Ingredients, Inc.Lemon Water with Chia Seeds. And I do have 2 questions for you if it’s allright.
    Could it be simply me or does it give the impression like a few of the remarks appear as if they are left by brain dead folks?

  7. I keep a bottle of water with Chia seeds in the refrigerator. when ever I need to drink water I drink some of the prepared chia and water from the refrigerator. It works real good in juices. I also use some of the prepared drink in my smoothies.
