Homemade Plum Jam

Homemade Plum Jam

I have never made jelly or jam before, but I had some leftover plums and attempted my first ever Homemade Plum Jam. This recipe came out fabulous, and if you like Port, it’s wonderful with that unexpected addition. While I know this recipe has sugar, it also contains cardamom which is super healthy for you including gastrointestinal protection, cholesterol control, control of cancer, relief from cardiovascular issues, and the improvement of blood circulation in the body. Plums are also a great source of Vitamin C, K and filled with fiber. Serve on biscuits, toast and even crackers or bruschetta with a touch of goat cheese for a sweet savory appetizer.

Health Benefits of Plums

health benefits of plums

Did you know plums are incredibly super healthy? The health benefits of plums are truly endless from indigestion relief, flu fighting properties, and even relief in anxiety-related problems. The antioxidant power of plums can even help osteoporosis, macular degeneration, cancer, diabetes and obesity. They also help promote healthy levels of cholesterol, cardiovascular health, cognitive health, immune system strength, cellular health, electrolyte balance, the nervous system and aids in skin care and blood clotting. Need I say more? One of the unique things about plums is that there are so many varieties available. Did you know this picture (above) was of plums? I purchased these at a local famers market. I honestly didn’t know that over 2,000 varieties of plums exist, and over 100 are available in the United States alone. Check out some awesome looking plum recipes below.

Plum Recipes: Pork, Plum and Rosemary Kabobs

This week’s Summerfest from the Food Network features one of my favorite stone fruits: plum recipes. My recipe for Pork, Plum and Rosemary Kabobs is a main dish favorite at our house during the summertime. The sweet and herb flavors blend wonderfully with the pork and plums. When I grill these, the kids are so excited. I love to cut additional plums for grilling because usually the kids are arguing about who took more. Summer Fest and Stone Fruits: Pork and Plum Skewers

93909

I was so excited that Summer Fest 2010 this week is featuring recipes using stone fruits from bloggers around the country. To read more about Summer Fest, check out Away to Garden and join the community. I love this recipe for Pork and Plum Skewers. It’s so easy to prepare. Just make a simple marinade, thread plums and pork on skewers, and grill. This recipe was featured in the July issue of Birmingham Magazine, and I couldn’t wait to share it for Summer Fest.
