No-Bake Dog Treats: For People Too

When Birmingham Magazine asked me for some dog treats for my monthly food column, I wasn’t sure what to do. Honestly, this is not my area of expertise. I contacted our wonderful veterinarian, Andy, and I asked him to name a couple of ingredients which I could use to develop a cookie that would be good for dogs. I created these No-Bake Dog Treats which are great for people too. These came out fabulous, and my dog, Latte, loved every one of them. Note: For overweight dogs, these should be a “splurge” snack.

Heart Healthy: No Bake Blueberry Bars

What is your favorite no bake recipe? I have been obsessed with “no bake” recipes this summer, especially desserts. These No Bake Blueberry Bars are so easy to make. I saw this Strawberry Oat Bar recipe in a recent Whole Living Magazine, and I had to try them with blueberries. Both the strawberry and blueberry versions are so good! I used almonds instead of macadamia nuts, but any nut would work. Dates and nuts are so healthy for you. Dates are a sweet fruit that grows on palm trees and contain B vitamins, Vitamin C and fiber. They are a good source of energy and low in fat. Almonds are a great protein source, heart healthy and help with cholesterol.

7 Creative Nutella Recipes

Everyone in our family is obsessed with Nutella. I find so many super creative Nutella recipes, so I decided to share 7 creative nutella recipes. Nutella, or chocolate-hazlenut spread, was created by Mr. Pietro Ferrero, a pastry maker and founder of the Ferrero company. During this time in World War II, cocoa was in short supply, so he decided to incorporate hazelnuts in the mixture to extend the taste of the chocolate. Little did he know what success would come from this priceless product. Enjoy these 7 Creative Nutella recipes below. I don’t know about you, but I want to try all of them. No-Bake Date Nut Energy Bars

I am always looking for new, healthy snack ideas for the kids, and if I can come up with a no-bake recipe idea, then even better. My two boys love dried dates, so I thought this combination of dates, nuts and flaxseed would make a great healthy snack, dessert or breakfast idea. You’ll love these too. No-Bake Date Energy Bars are not only “no-bake”, they are also gluten-free and perfect for all of my friends following the Paleo Diet. They also make a great pre or post workout snack so enjoy!

This recipe was adapted from “The Dramatic Pancake”.

No-Bake Mini Healthy Bites: Gluten-Free and Passover

I love to experiment with “No-Bake” cookie recipes, especially those that are gluten-free, Paleo Diet or perfect for Passover which starts this week. I was excited to make this recipe for No-Bake Mini Energy Bites which I made and tweaked from a recipe I saw on the blog, “Gimme some Oven”.  Her recipe is great, but if you want a Passover or gluten-free version, try grinding your favorite nuts and omitting the oatmeal. These are incredible, and I honestly could not keep my hands out of the container. My 3 kids had absolutely no idea there was flaxseed in them. Feel free to use almond butter instead of peanut butter and any of your favorite nuts.

No-Bake Paleo and Gluten-Free Cookies

These No-Bake Paleo Cookies were introduced to me by my friend, Tanya, who has been having success with the Paleo Diet. What I love about these cookies is that they are gluten free, high in omega 3 fatty acids, and best of all, taste great. This recipe is great if you’re on a gluten-free diet, trying to eat low carbohydrates or following the the Paleo Diet, which is based around eating quality sources of protein, fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, seafoods, fats high in omega-3 and low-glycemic carbohydrates. This is a low-carb diet which omits refined sugars and grains, dairy, trans fats, salt, high-glycemic carbohydrates, and processed foods. For more information see The Paleo Diet. Best of all, these cookies are no bake!

No Bake Chocolate-Peanut Flaxseed Butter Bars

No Bake recipes bar cookie recipes are some of my favorite cookie/bar types of desserts, especially this time of year when I’m so busy. I quickly mixed up these up  one afternoon, and my kids told me these were a “home run” (well that was what the boys said). My daughter loved them even though she isn’t a coconut fan. These No Bake Chocolate Peanut Bars call for ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. These make a great afternoon snack, dessert (with milk) and an easy homemade gift for Christmas or Hanukkah.
