Lemonade Poppyseed Cake

Today I am so excited to be on Talk of the Town Newschannel 5 in Nashville making this amazing recipe for Lemonade Poppyseed Cake perfect for this time of year. It is fabulous for breakfast, a snack and for dessert. It’s made with Milo’s new Lemonade that is all-natural with no preservatives. Milo’s Lemonade is a blend of fresh lemon juice, filtered water and is sweetened with pure cane sugar. Milo’s Lemonade was preferred in blind taste tests over leading national lemonade brands.

Milo’s Tea Company is a family owned, certified, woman-owned business located in Bessemer, AL. Milo’s was founded as a restaurant in 1946 by Milo and Bea Carlton after Milo returned from serving our country in World War II. Milo’s philosophy was simple – use high quality, fresh, natural ingredients, listen to your customers and never sacrifice taste. Milo and Bea’s vision still guides the company today as Milo’s continues to source only natural ingredients. Drink Milo’s and Taste the Difference.

In 1989, Milo’s began selling their fresh brewed Famous Sweet Tea to local Birmingham grocery stores, and now it can be found in thousands of retailers across the United States. Milo’s original products include Milo’s Famous Sweet Tea, Unsweet Tea and No Calorie Tea. These products can be purchased in stores across the country. These beverages meet the growing demand for all-natural products that are free from added preservatives. Most ready-to-drink teas are processed from instant or concentrate tea; however, Milo’s Tea is brewed fresh from high quality custom blended tea leaves.

Milo’s Tea Company has now introduced three new products to meet the growing demand of consumers for more Milo’s beverages just in time for summer and the 4th of July Holiday: Milo’s Decaf Sweet Tea, Milo’s Lemonade, and Milo’s Famous Sweet Tea and Lemonade. These are now available in multiple retail outlets.

Milo’s Sweet Tea Granita Recipe

For the first official week of summer, I thought I would celebrate with this Milo’s Sweet Tea Granita Recipe. It’s cool, refreshing and made with one of my favorite brands: Milo’s. I grew up Birmingham, Alabama drinking Milo’s TeaMilo’s is a local, family owned company which started in 1946. I was lucky because this is the best sweet tea you’ll ever find. My family loved Milo’s Tea, and it was a staple in our refrigerator. My kids are huge fans of Milo’s, and now they get to grow up with even more Milo’s to choose from (see below).

What I love about Milo’s drinks are that all of the products are made from high quality ingredients. The teas are brewed with just two ingredients (Filtered Water and Custom Blended Teas) and are unsweet or sweetened with Pure Cane Sugar or Splenda. They never use preservatives or additives. With your first sip you will taste the Milo’s difference. In late April this year Milo’s Tea Company  introduced three new products to meet the growing demand of consumers who want more Milo’s drinks: Milo’s Decaf Sweet Tea, Milo’s Lemonade, and Milo’s Famous Sweet Tea and Lemonade. The granita recipe (above) works fabulous with the lemonade too!  These new items rolled out into select retailers across the southeast. A list of retailers carrying the Milo’s new items can be found at drinkmilos.com/new. Once you try it, you’ll be hooked!

Three Generations of Women at Milo’s Celebrate Mother’s Day

3 Generations of Women at Milo's

I grew up drinking Milo’s Tea. It was a weekly staple in our refrigerator. My father, an anesthesiologist, always told my family that Milo’s Tea was good for you: all natural, no preservatives and made with pure cane sugar. There’s so much more to Milo’s than meets the eye, especially as we celebrate Mother’s day! Their story is amazing and celebrates the success and passion of three generations of women.

Milo’s was founded in 1946 by Milo and Bea Carlton when they opened Milo’s Hamburgers in North Birmingham, Alabama. In the late 1980’s Bea’s daughter-in-law, Sheila, had the idea to sell Milo’s Tea to grocery stores because customers were coming to Milo’s just to purchase the sweet tea. Milo’s philosophy is simple – use high quality, fresh, natural ingredients, listen to your customers and never sacrifice taste.

Milo and Bea’s son, Ronnie, his wife Sheila, and their two teenaged daughters, Tricia and Leslie, brewed, packaged and loaded their tea onto delivery trucks. After college, Tricia and Leslie came back to work at the family company: Tricia as the VP and Leading Counsel, and Leslie as the Treasurer. Tricia was elected by the family to become CEO and has expanded the business into 38 states. Today, Bea (92 years old) still attends the company cookouts and Christmas parties, and each of these three women (Sheila, Leslie and Tricia) are still actively involved in the business today.

Tricia and Leslie hope their daughters are involved with the company in the future which would be the 4th generation of Bea and Milo Carlton’s family. “In the South, when you have a memory of drinking sweet tea, you always think of your grandmother. My greatest memory as a child was playing in the backyard at my grandmother’s house drinking Milo’s famous sweet tea,” says Tricia.

Today, Milo’s Tea Company still fresh brews their all-natural teas with simple ingredients just like “Mamma Bea used to make. Milo’s Famous Sweet Tea, No Calorie Tea with Splenda and Unsweet Tea have recently expanded into seventeen Walmart Distribution Centers. And their NEWEST drinks: Milo’s Lemonade, Milo’s Tea & Lemonade and Milo’s Decaf Sweet Tea have rolled out into four Walmart Distribution Centers.

Milo's new products

“We sell a gallon of tea in Walmart about every two seconds,” says Tricia. Milo’s Tea Company is a part of the Walmart Women Empowerment initiative. Milo’s has just introduced three new products to meet the growing demand of consumers for more Milo’s beverages.
