My mother-in-law always prepares a pecan pie for Christmas dinner dessert. My husband and I decided to step out of the classic pecan pie box, and we tried this recipe for Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie for Thanksgiving which was a huge hit. Start by using a frozen pie crust. I used a regular size, but a deep-dish would work well too. Brush the edges with cream to give the crust a golden color. If you only have eggs on hand, that works too. Beat the eggs slightly and brush around the edges of the crust to give a glossy crust color. If you want to omit the bourbon, you may, but it gives it an extra southern bold flavor. You may want to make two pies while you’re at it because one goes fast! Enjoy this holiday season and year round or give as a holiday gift!
I know it’s my second apple related post this week, but my kids and I have been so into apples lately. We all have been craving a warm apple pie so I love this Apple Pie recipe from my friend, Rosemary. This was SO good! My youngest son, Zachary, said it was “spectacular”. This Apple Pie recipe is super easy too and lighter than most, and it’s great with or without a scoop of ice cream. See why to eat more apples in my post on the Health Benefits of Apples. Have a great rest of your week 🙂
I can not believe that Hannukah started last night and Christmas is around the corner. I have been getting many calls and emails for ideas for holiday food gifts, and many of you were asking for my Homemade Cracker Jacks, Granola Bars and Peppermint Dark Hot Chocolate recipes. I gathered all of them here in this post for 5 of my favorite holiday food gifts. My daughter, Leigh, came up with this S’mores Kit (above). Just gather some graham crackers, marshmallows and graham crackers, and it is that easy. Stay tuned for NBC 13 “Daytime Alabama” this Friday, December 14th at 11:30 a.m when I’ll be Co-Hosting the show and sharing holiday food gift ideas and more.

Happy December! I had such a fun weekend, starting with Friday night. I hosted a holiday party for my daughter and 13 of her friends, and I made my highly requested Peppermint Milkshakes. I served several desserts too, but these were the star. With only 3 ingredients, you can not go wrong with this recipe. I am amazed at the super creative peppermint recipes and creations I have seen across the internet, and I am so excited to share with you 10 favorite peppermint recipes and ideas. Here’s to a great month ahead and a joyous, healthy holiday season!

When I heard about Abigail Johnson Dodge’s new book “Mini Treats & Hand-Held Sweets”, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy. Abigail is a widely respected baker, food writer, contributing editor to Fine Cooking Magazine and more (I love her!). Her new book features 100 mouth watering desserts designed for home bakers of every level including easy to serve, last minute treats, party ideas, kids snack recipes, gluten free, non-dairy, vegan, egg-less and low-fat options. I am so excited to share her book and this awesome recipe for Rocky Road Fudge.
Abby says, “This fun little recipe is meant to inspire your whimsical, creative side. As with all of my recipes, I encourage you to add your own twists and to experiment with your own favorite flavors. The add-in possibilities for this easy-to-make fudge are practically endless, so switch in whatever you have in the pantry—even gummy worms would work! The only thing I wouldn’t take out would be the marshmallows—they’re too iconic to eliminate, but that’s just this baker’s opinion.”
For a chance to win a copy of this book leave me a comment and tell me what your favorite hand-held sweet is. Winner will be drawn on Saturday, October 13 at 8 a.m. CST.
For more chances to win, do the following and leave another comment telling me you did so. Good luck!

I was asked by the family this year to make something “chocolate” for dessert in addition to our Pumpkin Pie, Pecan Pie-I know, enough is enough. My good friend Sheila, who works for Favorite Recipes Press, gave me the book “Recipes Worth Sharing” last week. I found this recipe for Chocolate Chip Pie, and I had to try it. It’s so easy, and my daughter, Leigh, helped me make it in no time. We will be indulging in it on Thanksgiving, but it is wonderful anytime of the year (the kids love it!). Happy Thanksgiving to all my blog fans, family and dear close friends. You all know who you are!
Oh my goodness! I am a little afraid to let this cat out of the bag. Drum-roll please….for all of you who LOVE red velvet cake, I have a secret for you. I get paid to create recipes for a living, and as a Recipe Developer, I must seek out the best cake and cookie mixes (convenience products) you can buy. I tried “Sprinkles” cupcake mix, a mix from the very famous cupcake bakery “Sprinkles” from California, and it has my stamp of approval. Just follow the easy directions on the package for the mix and cream cheese icing. These cupcakes are wonderful and simple, and I promise they are as good (if not better) than homemade!
